DESCRIPTION
The Colonial on Arundel is a superb old colonial home, dating back to the 1930s, set in the heart of the malaria free Sundays River Valley, just off the R336, near Addo in the Eastern Cape.
Sunlands lies in a world famous citrus producing part of South Africa and Arundel is the name of the working farm on which The Colonial is located. Guests are welcome to wander through the orchards of oranges and lemons at leisure and encounter the peace and tranquillity of the abundant bird-life on the Coerney River, which borders the property.
The Colonial offers understated luxury in two garden facing suites, both with their own private entrances & swimming pools . The Fitzpatrick Suite and The Kirkwood Suite each comprise a bedroom, with queen sized double bed with a dual controlled electric blanket, and each unit is en-suite to a deluxe shower and double vanity area provided with luxury guest amenities. Gracefully appointed, with the emphasis on comfort and relaxation, both the units offer a private separate lounges. Each unit has access to free Wifi.
There is the added pleasure of complimentary tea and coffee facilities and a courtesy bar fridge. The rooms are heated for the cooler winter nights and have overhead fans and air-conditioners for the warmer African days. Dressing gowns, hairdryer and a private safe complete the facilities.
The Colonial has recently constructed The Wallow where guests can experience a hot outdoor bath, under the African stars, in a private and secluded part of the garden.
A farmhouse breakfast is served on the spacious garden-facing veranda dining room overlooking the orchards, and is included in the room rate.
2 & 3 course set menu dinners are available on a 72 hour advance request basis at R 160.00 to R 190.00 per person..
Set in a malaria free area, The Colonial is just 15 minutes from the Addo Elephant Park, and many other private game reserves which offer the chance to spot the Big Five right on your doorstep. The Zuurberg Mountains,just 30 kms from the guest house, can be seen in the distance and offer hiking and horse trails, and elephant back safaris which can now be booked by us. During the month of October, the valley is home to the famous Addo Rose Day.
The owner is a registered guide and he takes private guided game drives in a Landrover to the Addo Elephant National Park.
