Welgelegen Guest Farm & Wedding Venue

Welgelegen Guest Farm & Wedding Venue is situated 15 km’s outside the town of Fouriesburg, next to the Witteberg Mountain range, 40 km from Clarens. It is a working farm with Cherry and Apple Orchards, Cattle and Guest Houses sleeping 55 guests and a Wedding/ Conference centre for up to 200 guests. Welgelegen is only 350 km’s or +/- 3.5 hours drive from Johannesburg.

Cherry and apple trees blossom in mid September offering an incredible sight of delicate white flowers. Cherry trees bear fruit during October and November. Apple trees bear fruit from February to April. Beautiful autumn scenes are created with bright orange cherry trees. During winter the snow capped Maluti Mountains are spectacular and Witteberg in the background always creates fantastic photo opportunities.

Weddings

Welgelegen Guest Farm & Wedding Venue offer a brand new wedding venue, situated on a cherry and apple farm in the Eastern Free State between the Witteberge, 40 km from Clarens. The reception hall has a breathtaking view of the dam, overlooking the Maluti Mountains in Lesotho. Every season delivers its own unique natural beauty: Spring Blossoms, Summer Fruit, Autumn Leaves, and Winter Snow.
The The Chapel seats 150 inside & 50 on the veranda (Up to 200 in total). Alternatively, should you prefer to be amongst the sandstone cliffs, your ceremony can be outside on a deck overlooking the magnificent views. Outside weddings can seat 200 people.
The Reception Hall has been custom built for weddings and conferences. A fully equipped cash bar is situated inside the hall, for the convenience of your guests. The spacious venue can host 200 people. Our venue is wheelchair friendly. The reception hall is situated next to the chapel. It offers wonderful views of the sandstone cliffs with exceptional hues during sunset. There are spectacular photo opportunities with breathtaking nature surrounding the venue.

Conferences

Our conference venue is situated right on the picturesque lake - a more relaxed environment would be very hard to find. Combined the lake and the mountains, and you have an ideal venue for groups who are looking for a luxurious conference facility and team building activities. Our day or overnight conference packages have been designed to allow for tailor-made conferences, corporate getaways or product launches.

Accommodation

The Cherry House and Apple House consists of a fully equipped kitchen, lounge with fireplace, dining room, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms sleeping 5 and 6 persons respectively. Built in braai facilities is available on the outside covered stoep. The Cherry House overlooks the Witteberg Mountains and the Apple House overlooks the dam and Maluti Mountains.

There are ten Chalets and each Chalet consists of 2 bedrooms sleeping 4 persons. It includes a fully equipped kitchen and lounge area. Separate braai facilities are available on the outside covered stoep overlooking the Witteberg Mountains.

Activities

The Welgelegen Cherry farm is situated next to the Witteberg Mountain range. On top of the mountain, spectacular views of the Maluti's and surrounding areas can be enjoyed.

The beautiful sandstone formations are distinctive features of the area. If you want to do something more active, you could bring mountain bikes for cycling on the farm or along the farm roads and through the cherry orchards. It is nestled next to the dam stocked with Bass.

Magnificent views of the mountains can be seen from all corners of the house. Various 4x4 tracks in the vicinity and hiking trails are available on the farm and in the vicinity.

Down at the dam you can paddle in canoes and try your hand at bass fishing or stroll up to the summit of the mountains to enjoy the quietness of nature and do some bird watching.

There are the most wonderful indigenous flora and fauna to explore against the slopes of the hills!

Directions

From Fouriesburg turn to the direction of the township and Station. Drive past the township on your left. After about 7 km on the Stasie road you will get to a T-junction. Turn right towards the station and the Silo’s and follow the road that makes a 90° turn to your left. Carry on with the road to cross the railroad. Keep straight ahead and the tarred road will become a gravel road. Continue for about 7.4 km on this gravel road. Coming over a hill after 7 km, you will see the cherry orchards. Continue till you see the Welgelegen entrance sign on your right.
