DESCRIPTION
Schanskraal, which lies on the northern slopes of the 2,504 m high Sneeuberg mountain range, occupies some 13,000 hectares of outstanding natural beauty, located some 97 kilometres from Graaff Reinet and 52 kilometres from Nieu Bethesda. It is located in a malaria free area and the climate allows it to be enjoyed all year round.
Burgersrust Lodge is a secluded, historic pioneer farmstead.Built in 1793 and once home to President Thomas Burgers (hence its name), the Lodge has been attractively and comfortably restored to maintain the atmosphere of its origins, with much being preserved such as original floorboards, ceiling beams and door lintels.
To further retain its historic character there is no electricity and lighting in the Lodge is by candles, gas and paraffin lamps and the cosy glow of a log fire.
For an idyllic farm stay, Burgersrust Lodge offers spacious family accommodation, including a large sitting room with fireplace, 5 comfortable bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a farmhouse kitchen and pantry with gas refrigerator and freezer, gas oven and large gas farmhouse stove, both indoor and outdoor braai facilities and a beautiful garden overlooking the lake.
There is an abundance of hot water on tap from the wood fired donkey furnace and a farm store for basic provisions, should a guest forget something.
This charming Karoo Lodge which can sleep up to 12 people comfortably, or more if necessary, is available to single families, family or executive groups and is a fully equipped self catering unit for your exclusive use, serviced daily.
Schanskraal offers a unique and diverse eco system with many indigenous plants, abundant birdlife including Black, Martial and Fish Eagles and animal species including Kudu, Leopard, Gemsbok, Springbok, Blesbok, Zebra, Klipspringer, Caracal, Jackal, Steenbok, Aardwolf and Baboon.
