Rooipoort Nature Reserve

One of the oldest conservation areas in Southern Africa, Rooipoort Nature Reserve dates back to 1893. At more than 40 000 hectares in size, the reserve is ranked among the largest private reserves in South Africa and was declared the fourth South African Natural Heritage Site in 1985. About 65km west of Kimberley, Rooipoort is situated on the transition zone between the Karoo, Kalahari and grassland zones, and boasts 32km of riverine habitat along the banks of the Vaal River.
Rooipoort Nature Reserve has various accommodation options available.The Safari Camp is made up of eight luxurious tents, a central kitchen, central boma, and dining room and is within close proximity to the Vaal River, offering a great location for groups wanting to enjoy the outdoors.
The Shooting Box is a magnificently beautiful historical building consisting of six bedrooms, two sharing bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, lounge and a gorgeous old stoop. The Shooting Box is perfect for families and friends.
The Shooting Box Cottage is made up of two separate bedrooms, dining room, kitchen, separate bath, toilet, and shower.
Activities include fishing, canoeing, picnics by the Vaal River, game drives, bird watching, and Bushman Pethrogliphs.
